Another morning, another journey. It’s time to hit that ole dusty trail. We leave the Oxbow “Grand Cru” (an excellent title, self-anointed or not) to their day of brewing. Setting our sights an hour to the south, we head out with a very special destination in mind.
EN ROUTE TO PORTLAND, MAINE.
On our way out of Oxbow, we pass an important landmark: the aptly-named Cowshit Corner. What it lacks in charm it certainly makes up for in character:
But we decide to admire from afar. Hello, cows!
…And we’re off! Our Bloodmilk jewel guides us:
…all the way to Portland, where we arrive just 50 minutes later. (Jen has a knack for shaving off travel time. At normal speeds expect to clock about 65 minutes from Oxbow to Portland’s waterfront.)
Lendl is relieved to be on solid ground:
And so the wandering begins.
First stop: Portland Dry Goods. We’ve been a fan of these folks since we discovered them about a year ago, and we’re happy to see a familiar face behind the counter. PDG is home to some of the finest menswear in town, so Jen chats with Dustin, leaving Lendl to his own devices.
Lendl accumulates his stockpile:
Travel essentials, indeed!
Next stop: Portland Trading Co., another slice of Portland life. Proprietor Kazeem Lawal is a master curator of local delights:
We need a respite from all this shopping, so we take refuge in our final destination— Duckfat, famed playground for the palette, shrine to this most perfect fat:
Duckfat Soup x Oxbow Saison = the perfect marriage:
We can’t remember the last time we had fries this decadent:
Or a yolk so ready to be punctured:
…Or a week so rich in sensory treasures.
