How to Tie a Tie – Four in Hand Knot

Hope you all enjoyed our “4th of July” inspired post, which featured amazing men’s silk ties from locally-renowned designer Melissa D’Agostino. Today, as a continuation, I wanted to show the guys some more love with this “How to tie a tie” post. Many of you are already aware that there are four different ways to tie a tie, so I chose the Four in Hand Knot, probably the most popular and elegant method.

Note: You can’t go wrong with this particular way of tying a tie.  You can easily overdo a man’s look. Always aim for great statement pieces (i.e., cufflinks, colors that complement, belts, socks and shoes). Just as with anything traditional, less is more.

Check out the steps below to pull it off:

Step One – Place your tie around your neck, so that the wide end of the tie is on the right side and the thinner part is on your left.

Step Two – Cross the wide end over top of the other end. Now the right end is underneath (shown at right).

Step Three – Both ends are now crossed (wide end over narrow end). Bring the wide end underneath the narrow end, wrapping it all the way around the narrow end from left to right.

Step Four – Now that you’ve wrapped the wide end around the narrow, bring the wide end of the tie up through the center space at the neck and tuck it through the loop in front.

Step Five – Your tie should now look like the one in the photo above. Next, pull down the narrow part gently as you tighten the knot, moving it up until it reaches the center part of the collar.

And there you have it! Hope you guys found this fun post helpful. Bookmark it and share with your friends 😀
